Japanese: イワカガミ(岩鏡) - イワカガミ（英語表記）Shortia soldanelloides

An evergreen perennial plant of the Araceae family. It grows on rocky areas below the subalpine zone, with short rhizomes that spread horizontally. The leaves have long stalks, are thick and circular-cordate, and have a glossy upper surface, which is why it was named after its likeness to a mirror. In early summer, it produces flower stalks about 10 cm high, at the end of which several beautiful pale pink flowers bloom. The corolla is 10 to 15 mm long and has finely notched tips. Other species in the same genus include Iwauchiwa, which has single flowers, Ooiwakagami, which has slightly larger leaves, and Himeiwakagami, which has oval leaves with sharp serrations.
