Chemical evolution

This refers to the earliest stage in the evolutionary history of life, when organic components of matter accumulate in the environment from simple inorganic molecules. However, this is a somewhat restrictive term, and in a broader sense, it can include all chemical aspects of biological evolution, such as the evolutionary changes in cellular components, but it is less confusing to distinguish these later stages as biochemical evolution. Chemical evolution requires an energy source to increase the complexity of molecules, and in the case of chemical evolution on the early Earth, sources of energy that are thought to have come from ultraviolet light in sunlight, thermal energy from the Earth's crust, atmospheric discharges, and shock waves from meteorites.
