Himachi

An event where villagers gather together, spend the night from the evening of a certain day, and disband after worshiping the sunrise the next morning. The date varies depending on the area, but in some places it is the 16th of January, May, or September, and in others the 23rd of the month is important. In particular, June 23rd is the festival day for Atago Gongen and Jizo Bodhisattva, and some people consider this day to be Himachi. In some places, the day of the Koshin-ko or Nijusan-ya-ko is considered to be Himachi. In some areas, there are also Himachi-ko. In Kanzaki County, Shiga Prefecture, people abide by abstinence and purify themselves on the 15th of January, May, and September at the boundary between day and night. Members bring rice and gather at the house on duty, then visit the shrine with sacred sake. In Kita District, Kagawa Prefecture, twice a year, in spring and autumn, on the Kumano Shrine festival days, people bring rice cakes and sake to the main hall, and pray to a hanging scroll depicting the sun, with two head priests at the helm. In some areas, there is a building called a "himachi hut," and each villager brings their own money. A unique event is "Ami no Himachi" in the northwest of Tottori City, where people gather on September 15th to pray for a good catch.

村内の仲間の者が集まって、ある決まった日の夕刻より一夜を明かし、翌朝の日の出を拝して解散する行事。その期日は土地によってまちまちであるが、1、5、9月の16日とする所や、月の23日を重んずる所もある。なかでも6月23日が愛宕権現(あたごごんげん)や地蔵菩薩(ぼさつ)の縁日で、この日を日待とするのもある。また庚申講(こうしんこう)や二十三夜講の日を日待とする所もある。また土地によっては日待講というのもある。滋賀県神崎郡では、1、5、9月の15日に日と夜との境目に精進潔斎する。講員は米を持参して当番の家に集まり、御神酒(おみき)を持って神社に参詣(さんけい)する。香川県木田(きた)郡では、春と秋の2回、熊野神社の祭日に餅(もち)と酒を持参して本殿で頭屋(とうや)2人を中心として、天日を描いた掛軸を拝む。土地によっては日待小屋という建物があって、村の各人が費用を持参する例もある。変わったものに鳥取市北西部に「網(あみ)の御日待」というのがあり、9月15日に集まって大漁を祈願するという。
