Spark discharge - Hibanahoden

An electrical discharge that occurs instantaneously. Generally accompanied by a flash of light and sound, it is also called a spark. The moment when a wide variety of electrical discharges begin is also called a spark discharge, but this can be defined as the transitional state at the start of the discharge. Spark discharges often involve light emission from ionized atoms, which is one of their characteristics. Lightning is a well-known example of a spark discharge. Other examples include sparks that occur in high-voltage electrical wiring and discharges from charged clothing. Devices that apply spark discharge include spark plugs, which are used to ignite engines, gas ignition devices, and discharge printing machines.

瞬間的におこる放電。一般に閃光(せんこう)と音を伴い、スパークともいう。広く種々の放電が開始する瞬間も火花放電ということがあるが、これは放電開始の過渡的な状態と定義できる。火花放電では、イオン化原子による発光がみられることが多く、火花放電の特徴の一つとなっている。火花放電の代表的なものとして雷がよく知られている。また高圧電気配線でおきるスパークや帯電した衣服の放電なども火花放電である。火花放電を応用した装置としては、エンジンの着火装置であるプラグ、ガス着火装置、放電印刷機などがある。
