Latin America

Latin America is a concept in contrast to Anglo-America, and refers generally to the regions of North and South America excluding Canada and the United States, that is, the continental area south of Mexico and the islands in the Caribbean region.
[Overview]
The term Latin America was coined because the official languages in this region are Latin American, Portuguese, Spanish, and French, and the cultural traditions are also Latin American. However, there are many French-speaking people in Canada and the United States has a Spanish-speaking population of over 20 million, and there are also areas in Latin America where English and Dutch are used, so the distinction between Anglo and Latin is not necessarily strict.

ラテン･アメリカは，アングロ･アメリカに対する概念であり，カナダ，アメリカ合衆国を除く北アメリカと南アメリカの諸地域，すなわち，メキシコ以南の大陸部およびカリブ海地域の諸島の総称である。
【総論】
　この地域においては，スペイン語，ポルトガル語，フランス語などラテン系言語が公用語として用いられ，文化伝統もラテン系であるため，ラテン･アメリカの名称が生まれた。ただし，カナダには多くのフランス語を話す住民がおり，アメリカ合衆国は2000万以上のスペイン語人口を擁する一方，ラテン･アメリカにも，英語，オランダ語を使用する地域があるから〈アングロ〉〈ラテン〉の区別は必ずしも厳密なものとはいえない。
