Beat Generation

Japanese: ビート･ジェネレーション（英語表記）Beat Generation

A general term for the generation (Beatniks) who were somehow involved in the Beat movement that occurred in the United States in the 1950s. The Beat movement was a kind of lifestyle movement that rebelled against the oppressive and inhumane social system and the conservative and middle-class values that sought to settle there, and actively accepted poverty and lived a primitive commune life in order to unconditionally liberate humanity. This movement was first predicted by the production and explosion of the atomic bomb during World War II and the mass murder of Jews by the Nazis, and became even more apparent after the war with the tense conflict between the East and West camps known as the Cold War, and McCarthyism, which took advantage of this and attempted to manipulate power as an extreme right-wing movement.

1950年代のアメリカに起こったビート運動になんらかのかかわりをもった世代(ビートニクbeatnik)の総称。ビート運動は，抑圧的で非人間的な機能をもつ社会体制と，そこに安住しようとするスクエアsquareすなわち保守的で中産階級的な価値観とに反逆し，人間性の無条件な解放のために積極的に貧困に甘んじ，原始的なコミューン生活を行おうとする一種の生活運動である。この運動は第2次大戦中の原子爆弾の製造と爆発，ナチスによるユダヤ人大量虐殺などによって予感されはじめ，戦後，東西両陣営の冷戦と呼ばれる緊迫した対立や，それに便乗して極右的な権力操作をもくろんだマッカーシイズムなどによっていっそう顕在化した。
