Iturup

...The main industry was fishing, but the island is also blessed with deposits of sulfur, gold, and iron sulfide. It is currently under Russian rule (called Iturup Island) and is said to have been developed as a military base. There is an ongoing movement to return the island to Japan as an inherent part of the Japanese territory.
