Hidaka metamorphic belt

Japanese: 日高変成帯 - ひだかへんせいたい

A low-pressure, high-temperature regional metamorphic belt that constitutes the Hidaka Mountains in Hokkaido. It is believed that the deep to upper parts of the crust rose and thrust (rising up above other rock bodies due to horizontal pressure; the boundaries with other rock bodies form thrust faults) during the Tertiary Period of the Cenozoic Era. The rocks before metamorphism are thought to be components of ocean floor sediments and accretionary complexes that were deposited from the Late Cretaceous Period of the Mesozoic Era to the Tertiary Period of the Cenozoic Era. The lowest part contains an ultramafic body of upper mantle origin called the Horoman Complex.

北海道の日高山脈を構成する低圧高温型の広域変成帯。新生代第三紀に主として地殻の深部〜上部が上昇して衝上（水平方向の圧力で他の岩体の上にのし上がること。他の岩体との境界は衝上断層となる）してきたものと考えられている。変成する前の岩石は，中生代白亜紀後期から新生代第三紀にかけて堆積した海洋底の堆積物や付加体の構成物質とされる。最下部には幌満岩体と呼ばれる上部マントル起源の超苦鉄質岩体を含む。
