A powerful clan in Kyushu that flourished after the end of the Kamakura period. A branch of the Kiyohara clan. Its ancestor was Yorimoto, the second son of Kiyohara Yoshie. Yorimoto served as Daigaiki, Vice Minister of Mints, Yorimoto of the Record Office, Vice Minister of Kaneyu, etc. During the turbulent period of the Northern and Southern Courts, he became a key advisor for Emperor Go-Daigo, and accompanied the young Seisei Shogun Prince Kanenaga (son of Emperor Go-Daigo) when he traveled to Kyushu along with his sons Yoshiuji and Yoshito, and teamed up with Kyushu's largest anti-shogunate force, Higo no Kami Kikuchi Takemitsu, ushering in the rise of the Seiseifu. After Yorimoto's death, his descendants successively belonged to the Kikuchi clan as small powerful clans in the mountains of Yabe, Chikugo Province (present-day Obuchi, Kurogi-cho, Yame-gun, Fukuoka Prefecture), and plotted the restoration of the Southern Court.
