The cor anglais is a transposing instrument in the key of F, a fifth lower than the oboe. It is also called the cor anglais. The name is said to derive from its resemblance to the hunting horn used in England in the mid-18th century, but the exact etymology is unknown, with some suggesting that the French word anglais is a corrupted version of the words anglais (curved) or angulier (angular). It is a conical double-reed instrument, like the oboe, 1.043 meters long, with a bulbous bell to give the sound depth. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
