A small plateau in the eastern part of the city of Hiroshima. It is 1km north to south, 0.5km east to west, and 60 to 70m above sea level. When Hiroshima Castle was built, it was an island in Hiroshima Bay, but due to land reclamation in the early 17th century, it became connected to the Ota River delta. It was developed as a park in 1932. During the atomic bombing, the Danbara-cho area to the east was spared from exposure due to the mountain's shielding effect. The Radiation Effects Research Foundation is located on the summit. At Tamonin Temple on the northwest foot are the graves of the Yori clan, including Hiroshima Confucian scholar Yori Shunsui (father of Sanyo). At the southern foot is the Hijiyama shell mound from the Jomon period. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
