Balinese

(See table.) Malay has inscriptions from the end of the 7th century, Javanese from the early 8th century, and Balinese from the end of the 9th century. Javanese in particular has a rich literary legacy dating back to the 9th century, which has survived uninterrupted to the present day. South Indian characters have been widely used throughout Indonesia since ancient times, and these inscriptions are written in characters of this type, but today they are only used in very limited areas, such as the Tagbanwa people (Palawan Island) and Mangyan people (Mindoro Island) of the Philippines, and the Batak people (Sumatra) of Indonesia.
