Located in the southwestern Aegean Sea, it is made up of over 200 islands, including Andros, Tinos, Mykonos, Naxos, and Paros, scattered around the island of Delos, and forms the Greek prefecture of Cyclades. It produces tobacco, olive oil, wine, marble, and other products. The Bronze Age culture flourished around 3000 BC, and the Ionians settled there around 1000 BC. It is famous for the formation of the Delian League after the Persian Wars. It has been under Venetian control since 1204, and Turkish control since 1566. The main city is Ermoupolis on the island of Syros. Area: ^{2,572 km2} . Population: 112,615 (2001).
