Bolero (English spelling)

Japanese: ボレロ(英語表記)Boléro
Bolero (English spelling)
A one-act ballet. Music by M. Ravel. Choreography by B. Nijinska. It premiered at the Paris Opera in 1928 by I. Rubinstein's Ballet Company. The original lively rhythm has been changed to a monotonous, melancholic rhythm, but the steps themselves are abstract, using steps from the Spanish dance bolero. There are also versions choreographed by H. Lander and S. Lifar, but today the one choreographed by M. Béjart in 1961 is the most well-known and most frequently performed. There are several versions in Béjart's version, with both male and female leading roles, but the version performed by J. Donn, shirtless and alone at the center of a round red table, is full of ritualistic vitality and sensuality, and sparked an enthusiastic boom.
