His father, Lucien Guitry (1860-1925), was a French actor. After graduating from the Conservatoire, he made his stage debut at the age of 18, then performed in St. Petersburg for nine years before returning to France in 1891. He is known for premiering plays by Rostand and Bernstein, and for playing the role of the partner of the famous actress Legène. In his later years, he appeared in his son's plays and Molière's works, and gained fame for his unique acting style that made use of silence. His son, Sacha G. (1885-1957), was a French actor and playwright.

父リュシアンLucien Guitry(1860‐1925)はフランスの俳優。コンセルバトアール卒業後18歳で初舞台を踏み，次いでペテルブルグで9年間出演し，1891年帰国。ロスタンやベルンスタンの戯曲の初演者，名女優レジャーヌの相手役として知られる。晩年には息子の戯曲やモリエールの作品に出演し，沈黙を利用する独特な演技によって名声を博した。息子サッシャSacha G.(1885‐1957)はフランスの俳優，劇作家。
