Niethammer, FI (English spelling)

It is said to have originated in the German word humanism, used in a book by the German educational philosopher Friedrich Immanuel Niethammer (1766-1848) in 1808. In opposition to the trend of the time that emphasized natural science, Niethammer advocated the importance of learning to restore "humanity" and "form the whole personality," and called for the realization of this through education mediated by the classics.
