This refers to kabuki performed on floats. Floats are decorated floats that are pulled around at festivals and other events, and serve as a mobile kabuki stage on which plays are performed. The Yamaage Festival (July 25-27) at Yakumo Shrine in Karasuyama-cho, Nasu-gun, Tochigi Prefecture is famous for its float kyogen. A 100m stretch of road in the town is used to create a stage for dancing, as well as a flower path, bridge waves, and a mansion, and plays such as "Masakado," "Modoribashi," and "Momijigari" are performed on the stage. Over a hundred young men serve in the performances. At the Nagahama Hachiman Festival (April 13-15) in Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture, boys around 10 years old perform the "Nagahama Float Play," with plays such as "Shinshu Kawanakajima" and "Cho Chidori Soga Monogatari."
