A former town in Mino District, western Shimane Prefecture. Most of the area is forested, and in addition to cutting wood for pulp, wood processing is also carried out. Wasabi is a specialty of the town, and is shipped to Hanshin and Hiroshima. The town is home to scenic spots in the West Chugoku Mountains Quasi-National Park, including Hikimi Gorge.
