A small plain facing Hakodate Bay in the southeastern part of the Oshima Peninsula in Hokkaido. Also known as the Kameda Plain or Ono Plain, it spans Hakodate City, Nanae Town, and Hokuto City. The land is fertile and has the warmest climate in Hokkaido, so rice paddy management was already undertaken in the Genroku period (1688-1704). In addition to rice, potatoes, fruit trees, and vegetables are cultivated widely. Dairy farming and beef cattle raising are also carried out. The area features rare landscapes in Hokkaido, such as cedar groves, rows of red pine trees, and thatched farmhouses, and shows the transitional aspect from the Tohoku region to Hokkaido. Cement, oil, and seafood processing factories are located on the coast facing Hakodate Bay.
