Studies in Early Pottery of the Near East

...He participated in Petrie's Egyptian expedition, and after serving as a researcher at the Greek Institute of Archaeological Research, he served as the leader of the Egyptian Expeditionary Society's expedition to Amarna and other sites from 1925 to 1929. His work Studies in Early Pottery of the Near East (2 volumes, 1924, 27), published during this time, revolutionized the conventional method of discussing the spread of races by simply associating certain characteristics of pottery with specific races. In 1929, he became the leader of the Iraq excavation team of the University of Chicago's Oriental Institute, and excavated four sites in the Diyala River basin, including Khafajeh and Tell Asmar, which mainly belong to the 3rd millennium BC, as well as Khorsabad and Jerwan, which date from the Assyrian period.
