Frankfurt an der Oder

Japanese: フランクフルト・アン・デル・オーデル(英語表記)Frankfurt an der Oder
Frankfurt an der Oder
A city on the Oder River in the state of Brandenburg in northeastern Germany. Population 85,000 (1991). The town's origins date back to a German trading post on the west bank of the Oder River, and it took shape in the mid-13th century. It joined the Hanseatic League in 1368 and developed as a base for trade and commerce with the East. It came under the control of the Duke of Brandenburg at the end of the 15th century, and the first university in the territory was built in 1811. From the 19th century onwards, it was linked to nearby coal mining and underwent rapid industrialization. After World War II, the area on the east bank of the Oder River became part of Poland and was called Słubice, and Frankfurt became a key transportation hub with Poland as a border town.
