The central area of the former Nakata Town in the northern part of Tome City, northeastern Miyagi Prefecture. Former name of the town. In 1956 it was merged with three neighboring villages to form Nakata Town. The Omote-ya in the south is said to have been the residence of Fujiwara Hidehira's vassals, and after the downfall of the Fujiwara clan it was the residence of Ishinomori, a vassal of the Kasai clan. During the Sendai Domain era it was a market town. Even now, a market is held here, and commerce with the surrounding rural areas is thriving. 宮城県北東部,登米市北部にある旧中田町の中心地区。旧町名。 1956年近隣3村と合体して中田町となる。南方の表館は藤原秀衡の家臣の居所といわれ,藤原氏滅亡後は葛西氏の家臣石森氏の館があったところ。仙台藩時代は市場町。現在も市が開かれ,近郷農村相手の商業が盛ん。
