A history book written in the late Heian period. It consists of 20 volumes. It was written by Fujiwara Michinori. It is also called "Shikanki" or "Geki Nikki". In 1150 (Kyuan 6), Michinori received a personal order from Emperor Toba and began compiling the history of 15 emperors from Emperor Uda (reigned 889-897) to Emperor Horikawa (reigned 1086-1107) with the aim of succeeding the Rikkokushi (Six National Histories). However, this book, which is said to have 20 or 30 volumes, has been lost, and only unfinished drafts from 935 (Shohei 5) to 1153 (Nihei 3) remain intermittently. It is considered an important historical source of the late Heian period because it is based on Geki Nikki (an official diary of the Daijokan) or the private diary of Gekikan officials. Included in the "New Revised and Supplemented National History Series." [Mikiya Hayashi] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
