Nikko - Nikko
1532-1598 A monk from the Sengoku to Azuchi-Momoyama period.
Born in the first year of Tenbun. A Nichiren sect acolyte, he studied under Nichiden at Chogenji Temple in Sakai, and in the first year of Koji he became the third abbot of Chomyoji Temple in Kyoto. He opened Myokokuji Temple in Sakai, and lectured on Tendai Buddhism with Nichisen and Nichitai. In the seventh year of Tensho, he participated in the Azuchi Debate and was defeated, and later became the chief priest of Hokekyoji Temple in Nakayama, Shimousa (Chiba Prefecture). He passed away on August 27, in the third year of Keicho. He was 67 years old. He was from Izumi (Osaka Prefecture). His secular surname was Date. His pen names were Ryuun-in and Busshin-in. His works include "Azuchi Mondo-ki" and "Hokke Monku-mushi".

天文(てんぶん)元年生まれ。日蓮宗。堺(さかい)頂源寺の日沾(にちでん)に師事し,弘治(こうじ)元年京都頂妙寺3世となる。堺に妙国寺をひらき,日詮,日諦と天台学を講義。天正(てんしょう)7年安土宗論に参加して敗れ,のち下総(しもうさ)中山(千葉県)の法華経寺の住持となった。慶長3年8月27日死去。67歳。和泉(いずみ)(大阪府)出身。俗姓は伊達。号は竜雲院,仏心院。著作に「安土問答記」「法華文句無師」など。
