Fan Chengda - Hanseidai

A poet of the Southern Song Dynasty in China. His pen name was Chineng (also called Zhineng) and his pen name was Shihu Jushi. He was from Wu Commandery (Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province). He was a Jinshi in 1154 (24th year of Shaoxing). He was trusted by Emperor Xiaozong and rose to the position of deputy prime minister. He was on friendly terms with Lu You and is considered one of the four great poets of the Southern Song Dynasty. He had a villa in Shihu on the outskirts of Suzhou, where he spent his later years living a leisurely life, composing many refreshing poems with a sketch-like style that took rural subjects as their subject. However, he also wrote a series of poems filled with patriotic fervor while on an envoy to the Jin Dynasty, so he was not merely an idyllic poet. He wrote the 34-volume "Collection of Poems by Shihu Jushi."

中国、南宋(そう)の詩人。字(あざな)は致能(ちのう)（至能(しのう)ともいう）、号は石湖居士(せっここじ)。呉郡(ごぐん)（江蘇(こうそ)省蘇州市）の人。1154年（紹興24）の進士。孝宗の信任を受け、官は参知政事（副宰相）に至った。陸游(りくゆう)と親交をもち、南宋四大家の1人に数えられている。蘇州郊外の石湖に別荘があり、晩年はそこで悠々自適しながら、農村に題材をとったスケッチ風の清新な詩を多くつくった。だが一方に金国に使いした途中の愛国の熱情に満ちた連作もあり、単なる田園詩人には終わっていない。著に『石湖居士詩集』34巻がある。
