A legendary figure who is said to be the ancestor of Japanese hunters. There is an old legend about two hunters, Iwashi and Iwasaburo, and they are also expressed as Manji (Osamu) and Manzaburo, Oma and Koma, and Oonami and Koonami. The two are in conflict and fight with each other, but they share a common motif in which one of them receives the protection of the mountain god by helping it, while the other does not help it and is unable to receive the bounty of the mountain. Hunters, typical of mountain people, used to wander the mountains all over the country, and the legend of Iwashi Iwasaburo is distributed throughout the country. There are also legends that Iwashi Iwasaburo is a single hunter. A typical example is the hunter Iwasaburo who helped Nikko Gongen and shot Akagi Myojin with an arrow. He later became the founder of the Matagi. (Miyata Noboru) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc. About Asahi Japanese Historical Biography |
