The world church movement (→ ecumenism) is a major driving force behind the movement. It was established in 1948. It includes all Protestant churches around the world, excluding conservative denominations, as well as the Eastern Orthodox Church. Since 1968, the Roman Catholic Church has also officially sent a member to the Committee on Faith and Order. Several denominations in Japan are also members. It has its headquarters in Geneva, and conferences are held around the world every six to seven years.
