…his name appears in documents from the middle of the 3rd millennium BCE, but during the reign of Sargon it became common to use it as part of personal names. He was the son of Enlil and Ninlil, and his consort was Ningal. He was the father of the sun god Shamash and the Venus goddess Ishtar.
