Kiyohiko Ushihara

Japanese: 牛原虚彦 - うしはらきよひこ

1897-1985 A film director from the Taisho and Showa periods.
Born on March 22, 1897. Joined Shochiku Kamata Studio in 1920. His first directorial work was "Yamagure Ruru" the following year. In 1940 he went to the US and worked as Charlie Chaplin's production assistant. After the war he became a professor at Nihon University and president of Nikkatsu Art Academy. He passed away on May 20, 1985, at the age of 88. Born in Kumamoto Prefecture. Graduated from Tokyo Imperial University. His real name was Kiyohiko. His works include "Kare to Tokyo" and "Riku no Ouja".

明治30年3月22日生まれ。大正9年松竹蒲田(かまた)撮影所にはいる。初の監督作品は翌10年の「山暮るる」。15年渡米,チャップリンの製作助手をつとめる。戦後,日大教授,日活芸術学院院長。昭和60年5月20日死去。88歳。熊本県出身。東京帝大卒。本名は清彦。作品に「彼と東京」「陸の王者」など。
