Osaki is an old town in Tamazukuri County in the north-central part of Miyagi Prefecture. Its center is the Taniguchi settlement in the middle reaches of the Arao River, and it developed as a castle town for the Date clan, running along the Rikutou Line. It is famous for its bamboo crafts, frozen tofu, and agar, and is home to the former Yubikan (historic site), the Date clan's seat of learning. In March 2006, it merged with Furukawa City, Matsuyama Town, Sanbongi Town, and Kashimadai Town in Shida County, Naruko Town in Tamazukuri County, and Tajiri Town in Toda County to become a city. 宮城県中北部,玉造(たまづくり)郡の旧町。中心は荒雄川中流の谷口集落で,伊達(だて)氏の城下町として発達,陸羽東(りくうとう)線に沿う。竹細工,凍り豆腐,寒天などを特産,伊達氏の学問所,旧有備館(史跡)がある。2006年3月,古川市,志田郡松山町,三本木町,鹿島台町,玉造郡鳴子町,遠田郡田尻町と合併し市制,大崎市となる。140.70km2。1万4175人(2003)。
