In February 1916, the deserter and stage director Ball and his lover, singer Emmy Hennings, opened the Cabaret Voltaire there with the Alsatian painter Arp, the Romanian poet Tzara, and the painter Marcel Janco (1895-). The Berlin doctor and poet Huelsenbeck also joined, and every night, proclamations, songs, noise music, voice poetry, simultaneous poetry, masked dances, and other performances were held in this establishment, which had only a small stage and 15 to 16 tables. …
