Odekaton - Odekaton

...The works of Italian composers around 1500 include the frottola (secular song) and canto carnacialesco (carnival song) in Mantua (Gonzaga family), Ferrara (Este family), and Florence (Medici family). The collection of polyphonic music published in 1501 by the Venetian printer Petrucci under the title Odecaton (a hundred songs) is considered to be the first printed musical score. However, the fact that many of the composers of the music included in this collection were not Italian reflects the musical situation in Italy at the time.
