...A reduction reaction that converts the carbonyl group of a ketone or aldehyde into a methylene group, CH2 . It was discovered almost simultaneously by two chemists, N. Kishner in 1911 and L. Wolff in 1912. The carbonyl compound is first converted into a hydrazone (formula (1)), which is then heated in the presence of an alkali to obtain the reduced product (formula (2)). ...
