Born: March 23, 1839, Muhlkreis Died October 1, 1921. Vienna Austrian meteorologist and climatologist. After graduating from the University of Vienna, he worked as a high school teacher. In 1867 he became a member of the Vienna Central Institute for Meteorology and Geomagnetics, and in 1877 he became its director. He returned to the University of Vienna and became a professor of astrophysics in 1900. He contributed greatly to the development of climatology by presenting brilliant insights into atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics, atmospheric pulsations, and air pressure, with a focus on precipitation phenomena and the Föhn phenomenon.
