Born: May 5, 1914, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
Died November 15, 1958, Madrid, Spain. American actor, known for his adventure and action films. Named after his great-grandfather, Tyrone Power (1795-1841), a popular Irish actor and comedian. After several years with touring Shakespeare companies and minor roles in films, Tyrone made his Broadway debut in 1935 in Romeo and Juliet. He achieved his first success in the film world with a role in Lloyd's of London (1936), and was subsequently cast in a succession of leading roles, producing hits such as Alexander's Ragtime Band (1938), In Old Chicago (1938), Jesse James (1939), and Blood and Sand (1941). He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, and returned to the film industry after the war, appearing in films such as The Razor's Edge (1946), The Eddie Duchin Story (1956), and Witness for the Prosecution (1957). He died suddenly while filming on location in Spain. Between film appearances, he also appeared on stage, giving outstanding performances in such productions as John Brown's Body (1952) and Back to Methuselah (1958).
