Hallelujah (English spelling) Hebrew

Japanese: ハレルヤ - はれるや(英語表記)hallelujah ヘブライ語
Hallelujah (English spelling) Hebrew

A kind of cheer meaning "Praise the Lord" in Hebrew. Originally used as a part of Jewish worship music, it seems to have been introduced into Christian churches as early as the 4th century. In the Roman Catholic liturgy, it was Latinized and pronounced Alleluia, and was sung before the reading of the Gospels. The Alleluia chant incorporates verses from the Bible and is sung by the cantor and choir in a response style. It also ends with an ornamental section (ubirus) in which the final vowel a is prolonged. This freer musical element of the Alleluia chant played an important role in the subsequent development of Western music. The words of the Hallelujah have been used in modern artistic works, the most well-known of which is the "Hallelujah Chorus" in Handel's oratorio Messiah (1741).
