Also known as Struve. A family that has produced prominent scholars, military men, and diplomats for 250 years (see figure). The following six are famous as astronomers. (1) Friedrich Georg Wilhelm von Struve (1793-1864) Born in Germany, he moved to Russia at the age of 15. He studied philosophy and astronomy. His Russian name was Vasily Yakovlevich Struve.
