Around 1756 - 1818 A poet of the first period of the Lucknow School, a school of Urdu literature in India. He was from a distinguished family that descended from the sixth Shiite Imam. Born in Murshidabad, he moved to Faizabad with his father, and at the age of 16, he entered the court of Nawab Shuja-ud-Daulah of the Sultanate of Oudh. A very handsome and eloquent man, he won the favor of the Nawab, but he also aroused the jealousy of many, and after the Nawab's death he moved from place to place, including Delhi.
