Bodel, Jean

Japanese: ボデル(英語表記)Bodel, Jean
Bodel, Jean
Born: 1167, Arras
[died] 1210. French poet and playwright from near Arras. He is said to have been educated by the clergy when he was young. He wrote many fabliaux, but his most important work is Jeu de Saint Nicolas (1200), which shows the transition from religious drama that takes its subject matter from the Bible to secular drama that deals with events in the human world. His Les Congés (02), which he wrote to his friends while suffering from leprosy, is full of moving verses.
