Born: November 12, 1872, Witten
Died: October 12, 1959, Halle. German human geographer. He spent his life as a professor at the University of Halle. He continued the academic tradition of F. As a pioneer of German landscape geography, he left behind many achievements and built the foundations of geography in the first half of the 20th century. His classification of villages was mainly based on characteristics of planar morphology, and had a major impact on the classification of settlement forms.
