Lithuanian-born French art historian. His father (1873-1944) was a famous diplomat and poet, and his father-in-law was H. Focillon. His works "The Middle Ages of Fantasies" (1955) and "Awakenings and Wonders" (1960) shed light on the contributions of ancient and eastern art to Gothic art from a unique perspective and iconographic composition. His works, which are supported by his vast knowledge and gifted writing, ranging from mysticism to optics, including "Anamorphoses," "Aberrations," "The Mirror," and "Searching for Isis," show a common awareness of issues shared by the Warburg School.
