A Late Paleolithic site in the Moravia region of Czechoslovakia. Excavation was first started by K. Absolon after World War II, and in 1950 B. Klima discovered a 5m x 9m dwelling site with five hearths in the loess layer. The bones of about 100 mammoths were piled up and dumped in the remains of a nearby swamp, which is thought to have been a meat storage area. The burial of a woman around 40 years old was also found on the edge of the dwelling site. She was buried in a flexed recumbent position, covered with red pigment and covered with two mammoth shoulder blades. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
