Romanian politician and historian. Born into a minor Wallachian noble family. In February 1848, he participated in the February Revolution while studying in Paris, and in May after returning to the country, he established the Revolutionary Committee and became one of the leaders of the Wallachian Revolution from June to September. Ideologically, he represented the radical faction and advocated the emancipation of serfs, universal suffrage, and a republican government. After the revolution was crushed by the Ottoman army, he went to Transylvania and attempted to mediate the ethnic conflict between the Romanian peasant revolt and the Hungarian revolutionary army, but failed. He went into exile in France and Italy, and died of an illness in Palermo.

ルーマニアの政治家，歴史家。ワラキアの小貴族の出身。1848年2月留学先のパリで二月革命に参加，帰国して5月に革命委員会を設立，6～9月のワラキア革命の指導者の一人となった。思想的には急進派を代表して農奴解放，普通選挙，共和政を主張した。オスマン帝国軍隊による革命の鎮圧後トランシルバニアへ赴き，ルーマニア人の蜂起農民とハンガリー革命軍との民族的対立の調停工作を行ったが実現せず，フランス，イタリアへ亡命，パレルモで病死した。
