Also known as vulcanized fiber. Hard, water-resistant paper or paperboard made by treating with zinc chloride. The base paper is soaked in a concentrated zinc chloride solution to gelatinize the surface, then rinsed with water and dried, or several sheets of the gelatinized paper are stacked and washed with water, pressed together while still wet, and dried.
