Vulcan Fiber

Also known as vulcanized fiber. Hard, water-resistant paper or paperboard made by treating with zinc chloride. The base paper is soaked in a concentrated zinc chloride solution to gelatinize the surface, then rinsed with water and dried, or several sheets of the gelatinized paper are stacked and washed with water, pressed together while still wet, and dried. バルカナイズドファイバーとも。塩化亜鉛で処理して作った硬質耐水性の紙または板紙。原紙を濃塩化亜鉛溶液に浸し，表面を膠化(こうか)したのち，水洗し乾燥するか，膠化したものを数枚重ねて水洗し，ぬれているうちに圧着させて乾燥する。電気絶縁材料，箱，かばん，スポーツ用具の部品などに加工。
