Bali War - Bali War

Japanese: バリ戦争 - バリせんそう

A war (1846-49) in which the Dutch East Indies army conquered the western and northern parts of the Indonesian island of Bali. Although the Dutch had fought against Balinese forces in Java up until the 18th century, they had never considered conquering Bali itself. However, from around 1840 onwards, piracy and shipwreck plundering by the Balinese frequently angered the Dutch, and they were worried that other European powers might advance onto the island. In 1842-43, they concluded treaties with the kings of the southeastern part of the island in an attempt to prevent the plundering of shipwrecks, but to no avail.

オランダ東インド軍が，インドネシアのバリ島西部および北部を征服した戦争(1846‐49)。18世紀までにもオランダ軍はジャワでバリ人の軍隊と戦うことはあったが，バリ島自体の征服は考えなかった。しかし1840年ごろからバリ人による海賊行為や難破船略奪がしばしばオランダ人を怒らせ，またほかのヨーロッパ勢力がこの島に進出するのではないかという懸念から，42‐43年にかけて同島南東部の諸王と条約を結び，難破船略奪を防ごうとしたが効果がなかった。
