[Born] 1272 [Died] 1348 A Chinese literary figure of the Yuan Dynasty. Born in Chongren (Jiangxi Province). His pen name was Bosheng. His pen names were Daoyuan and Shaoan. His posthumous name was Wenjing. In 1297, he went to Dadu (Beijing) to serve as an official, and became a professor of Confucianism in Dadu Road and a doctor of Taichang. In 1328, when Emperor Wenzong ascended to the throne and established Kuizhang Pavilion as an academic institution, he became a trusted scholar and presided over the compilation of the Great Classic of Jingshi and the Annals of Zuzong. As a poet, he is known as one of the four great poets of the Yuan Dynasty, along with Yang Zai, Fan Fang, and Jie Jiesi. He is said to have studied the structure of Tang poetry the best, and his writing is said to be the foremost of the Yuan Dynasty. In Japan, he was often read by the poet-monks of the Five Mountains during the Muromachi period. A collection of poems and essays called "Doen Gakukoroku."
