Antonio Harada

Japanese:
Antonio Harada
Years of birth: Years of birth and death unknown. Publisher of kokuji books based on Christian editions in the early Edo period. The only surviving publication is "Kontemutsumunchi," published in mid-April in 1610. The book has the Latin inscription "Harada Antonio Printing House, Kyoto," and is the only Christian edition published in Kyoto. The contents are a revised abridgement of the Romanized version printed by the Jesuits in 1616, but it appears to have been a reprint using wood type of the kokuji version printed by Nagasaki Goto, which was published around the same time. His background and relationship with the Jesuits are unknown. There is also a theory that he is the same person as Harada Hayato Antou-no-yo of Iyo Province in Shikoku, who appears in a reply to Pope Paul V's pardon visit in 1621. <References> "Research on Christian Editions," edited by Tenri Library
