A slang term for highly contagious conjunctivitis caused by the adenovirus. There are 33 types of adenovirus, from type 1 to type 33, of which type 8 is called epidemic keratoconjunctivitis (abbreviated as EKC), and is considered "pink eye" in the strict sense. Type 3 is called pharyngoconjunctival fever (abbreviated as PCF), but since it is often transmitted in swimming pools, it is commonly called "swimming pool fever."
