Khamse tribe - Khamse tribe (English spelling)
The collective name for a confederation of five nomadic tribes in Fars Province in southwestern Iran. The name Hamseh comes from the Arabic numeral meaning "five," and the tribes that make up this confederation are the Turkish Bahrul, Eynalul, and Nafal, the Iranian Baseli, and the Arabs. These five tribes have different ethnic origins and social organizations, but in 1861, the Qajar provincial government and the powerful Kabam family, fearing the growing power of the Kashgai tribe, which had power in the vicinity of Shiraz, united the five tribes under their leadership to form this confederation as a counterforce.
