Padmasambhava - Padmasambhava (English spelling)

Date of birth and death unknown. A high priest of Indian esoteric Buddhism who entered Tibet in the 8th century. He is known by the honorific titles Padma byu gnas (born from the lotus flower), Guru rin po che (treasure of the teacher), and Orgyan guru (O rgyan guru) after the name of his hometown in northwest India. He was invited by the Tibetan king, Tsongdetsen, and performed a ground-breaking ceremony to exorcise evil spirits and demons when the Samue Great Temple was built. He was also revered as the supreme master of the ancient Tibetan esoteric Buddhism for his many miraculous feats. He is similar to the Japanese faith of Kobo Daishi in that he was the center of worship among ordinary people. Many stories of miracles and miracles have been told about him, including Padma bka tha (Pema kathang), but these cannot be considered historical fact.
